The aim of the B.S. Johnson Society is to bring closer Johnson scholars, readers and aficionados alike in their various approaches to the author’s life and work.
The publication in 2004 of Jonathan Coe’s biography, Like a Fiery Elephant, has helped create momentum around B.S. Johnson, and we are hoping to give the research on the author more visibility through the Society.
The thought of a Society and its website has arisen after the second conference on B.S. Johnson was held in October 2009, at the British Library in London.
The Society’s Patrons and Presidents are:
Virginia Johnson (wife) Steve Johnson (son) and Jonathan Coe (biographer)
The Society’s Executive Committee consists of:
Presidents: Virginia Johnson, Steve Johnson and Jonathan Coe
Director: Philip Tew
Secretary and website administrator: Karen Zouaoui
Journal secretaries: Joseph Darlington, Melanie Seddon, Mark Hooper.
Webmaster: James Warren (brother to our late webmaster Jeremy Warren who kindly designed the website Oct. 7th 2010).
The founders of the Society, Philip Tew and Karen Zouaoui, are based in London and Paris respectively and would like to encourage communication between readers, scholars and aficionados of B.S. Johnson across the world, as well as the organization of events where members and others interested in Johnson can meet.
